WILDERNESS WORKSHOP 2010 SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM

The Wilderness Workshop is seeking two or three outstanding undergraduate interns for summer 2010. The interns, who may work full-time or part-time, will be assigned to the Hidden Gems Campaign, which is seeking Congressional wilderness designation for several hundred thousand acres in western Colorado.

 

The interns will be based at WW’s office in Carbondale, Colorado. They will work closely with the campaign’s grassroots organizers in preparing for presentations, tabling at events, rallying supporters by phone and in person, updating the campaign’s website and social media sites, preparing maps and materials, tracking media coverage, assembling mailings, petitioning in high-traffic public locations, and conducting tours of the proposed wilderness areas.

 

Qualifications

  • Completion of at least one year at a four-year college or university
  • Excellent writing, speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated passion for land conservation issues
  • Enthusiastic interest in working on a major wilderness campaign
  • Proficiency in office computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), web research and social media
  • Strong map-reading skills
  • Strong organizational skills (experience in issues advocacy and/or event planning a plus)
  • Flexibility – some evening and weekend work may be required
  • Ability to work independently and also as part of a team
  • Have own vehicle and willingness to travel around the region as needed (mileage compensated) 

 

Compensation & time commitment

$1,000/month stipend for full-time work (40 hours a week). Interns may elect to work less than full time (three or four days per week), with pro-rated compensation. Interns will be responsible for their own housing. Internship dates are flexible, but will generally run from June 1 to Aug. 20, 2010.
